iPhone 14 Launch: What to Expect?
As we all know, Apple has finally announced the Apple Event for the 7th of September, and after a long wait, iPhone 14 is finally about to launch.
It’s been a while since the speculations and rumours about the new iPhone series have been around. While a lot of these seem accurate, we’d love to give our highlights on what phones we’re getting during the launch and a little bit about the unofficial but expected spec sheet too.
Which and how many phones will be there in the iPhone 14 series?
The new iPhone 14 lineup is rumoured to still have four phones like the last two series, iPhone 12 and 13 series. However, there is a significant change in the iPhone lineup this year: iPhone Mini will most likely be discontinued.
Instead of a mini, you’ll get a Max or a Plus, like the previous lineups of iPhone: iPhone 7, 8 or X. Apparently, it is rumoured that the mini edition was not as popular as the rest of the phones in the iPhone 12 and 13 lineups, hence they’re now terminating the mini iPhone. On the contrary, some very credible leakers are stating that the mini version won’t be cancelled.
Is the design going to change?
There’s no speculation regarding a significant design change; however, many leakers have been saying that there will be an increase in the camera bump and lens sizes.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will most likely have a 6.1″ display design, while the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max will most likely have a 6.7″ display.
The standard bathtub notch of the iPhone will most likely be replaced by a pill and hole notch in the Pro models of the iPhone 14 lineup. Although, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will have the same bathtub notch.
The colour variants of the iPhone 14 series will most likely remain the same. However, there are a lot of speculations going on about the addition of a purple shade as purple shade has been a very trendy colour this year. This shade was last seen in iPhone 12 series.
What about the camera? Are there any upgrades on that?
As per the recent leaks, the Pro models of the current iPhone lineup are getting an exclusive upgrade from a 12 MP Wide camera to a 48 MP Wide camera. Apple also might launch an 8k video recording option in these models.
Moreover, the camera might get a new ‘periscope’ technology for more distinguished optical zoom.
The front camera will probably have an autofocus feature, an improved depth of field and a wider aperture to allow more light for better photos.
Are we still going to get the same 60 Hz display for the standard models of the iPhone 14 series?
Most likely, yes. Only Pro models will get the ProMotion Display (120 Hz), just like in the iPhone 13 lineup.
Although many people are expecting at least a 90 Hz refresh rate display for the standard models of the iPhone 14 lineup.
What about the chipset? It’s always the same for all phones in each lineup.
But this time, that might not be the case. About this, most leakers are confident.
As per the rumours, Apple is planning to launch the standard models with the older A15 Bionic Chip, while the Pro models will most likely have the latest A16 Bionic Chip.
The A16 Bionic Chip might be similar to the A15 Bionic Chip, but with a few upgrades and tweaks.
What about the RAM & ROM options?
All the iPhones in the current lineup will mostly get upgrades in terms of RAM or unified memory. Instead of the standard 3GB RAM in the non-Pro models, we might experience 4 GB RAM, and in Pro models, we might get 8 GB RAM instead of 6 GB RAM.
The storage options will most likely remain the same. However, certain rumours are going around about having a 2 TB variant for the Pro models of the iPhone 14 lineup.
So, what CAN we expect from the iPhone 14?
While many rumours are leaked by credible leakers with a history of releasing accurate details about upcoming iPhones, many leaks usually do not have much credibility. From the above factors, we can give a heads up for the design, chipset and display leaks, as these are some of the most credible sources. However, for the rest, we have to wait till the launch to see the details.
